The Truth About Menopause
Menopause is technically just one day— It’s the 12-month anniversary of your last period. After that, you’ve officially earned your postmenopausal badge. If perimenopause was a hormonal rollercoaster, postmenopause is more like coasting on a straight track. While your hormones aren’t wildly fluctuating anymore, they’re now running at low power: estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone all dip and stay there.
Some of those perimenopause symptoms may linger, but over time, many will ease up. That said, this new chapter can bring along its own challenges: lower estrogen can mean dry and sensitive vaginal tissue, more frequent urinary tract infections, and sex that’s less fun than it used to be. There’s also an increased risk for osteoporosis and heart disease.
Here’s the good news—there’s so much you can do to feel better and protect your health. Whether it’s lifestyle changes, medications, or just understanding what’s happening in your body, you don’t have to go it alone.
